Discovery Bible Study (or DBS) uses the same few simple questions every time, with every bible passage. Unlike other ways to study scripture, DBS doesn’t use a different set of questions per bible passage. This makes it easier and more reproducible – especially for new disciples.
Quick Discovery Bible Study Questions
Here are some suggested questions people can use when reading scripture. These are the basic DBS questions to ask when reading scripture:
Ask “From this passage of the Bible…
- – What most stands out to you in this passage?
- – What does this passage teach us about God or Jesus?
- – What does this passage teach us about people?
- – Is there a command to obey or an example to follow?
- – Who could you share this with?
Extended Discovery Bible Study Questions
Here is a DBS questions list with a few extra questions people could use when reading scripture. These are the extended list of questions to ask when reading scripture:
Ask “From this passage of the Bible…
– What stood out to you the most? (optional)
– What do you like or not like? (optional)
– What do you not understand? (optional)
1. What does this teach us about God/Jesus?
2. What does this teach us about people?
(List the people in the passage and think what do we learn from them?)
– Who do you identify with? (optional)
3. Based on this scripture, what will you do with it?
– Is there something we need to do or not do?
– “If this is really God’s word, what changes would I have to make in my life?”
4. What and with whom (& why) will you share what you just learned?
These DBS questions are similar to what is used the Waha app which helps people facilitate a bible study gathering.
The Pattern of discipleship meetings uses these DBS questions in the “Look up” section of the activity.
Now that you have the questions to use when doing a bible study activity, you can view our suggested listed of bible passages or use the Waha app which also offers bible passages and themes for bible studies.
